19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden championship for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's first title after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won 21 titles at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the first title I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused some to doubt if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.

Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the last five games to go ahead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a third set.

Moutet defended four early chances in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
